Lawrence Little League Baseball

Lawrence Little League Baseball

Lawrence Little League operates baseball divisions at varying age and skill levels each season. Players are assessed annually and then drafted by coaches into an age- and skill-appropriate division.

Our goal each year is to place players in the appropriate division to provide them a positive experience and to allow them to grow their skills. These descriptions are a guide, and may be adjusted based on annual registration numbers.

⚾ Intermediate 50/70 Division

An advanced division to prepare older players for the high school game with a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths. Gameplay features leading off, stealing bases, and balks.

  • Eligible Age: Boys league age 11-12. Players age 10 are not eligible for this division.
  • Schedule: Teams practice once a week and play one or two games a week. The schedule is fully intra-league with other District 12 programs.
  • Draft and Roster: Team rosters are created annually through tryouts. Any 11 or 12 year old wishing to try out must first register for the season, then once registration closes, indicate their wish to play 50/70 when the tryout announcement is sent out to parents. Players who do not make a 50/70 roster are automatically placed into the 46/60 draft.
  • Coaches: Team Managers register through the website and their player is automatically assigned to the team. Assistant coaches are added to the staff of the team their player is drafted onto.
  • Lineups: Set by the Team Manager. Continuous batting order. Each player must play at least 2 innings in the field per game.
  • Game Length: 7 innings. Regulation game = 5 innings (4½ if home team leads). No new inning may start after 2:15 elapsed or after 9:50 PM.
  • Inning Limits: Unlimited runs per inning.
  • Run Rule: 15 runs after 4 innings (3½ if home team leads) | 10 runs after 5 innings (4½ if home team leads) | 8 runs after 6 innings (5½ if home team leads).
  • Pitching: All player pitched. Pitch Smart guidelines are followed for arm care, with the following 50/70-specific limits: 11-12 year olds may throw a maximum of 85 pitches per day; pitchers may not pitch in Little League games across 3 consecutive days. A pitcher removed from the mound may return as pitcher in the same game, provided they have not left the game as a defensive player. Catchers who catch more than 3 innings are not eligible to pitch thereafter; catchers who move to pitcher and throw more than 21 pitches may not return as catcher that day. Pitchers who throw 41 pitches are not eligible to catch, unless they are completing an at-bat when they reach 41 pitches. Courtesy runner available with 2 outs for the pitcher or catcher of record only; runner is the last batted out.
  • Balk: Balk rule in effect. Each pitcher receives 1 warning per game before a balk is called.
  • Stealing: Unlimited stealing, including leading off. Runners may lead off once the pitcher begins their motion.
  • Sliding: Head-first sliding is permitted when advancing.
  • Overthrows: Unlimited bases may be taken on an overthrow.
  • On-Deck Circle: Permitted only if enclosed within the dugout area and out of play.
  • Special Rules: Infield fly rule in effect. Dropped third strike in effect. Two adult umpires assigned by District 12.
  • Standings and Playoffs: District 12 may organize a "Tournament of Champions" style playoff series.

A division for our oldest players in the 46/60 program, featuring full Little League rules including unlimited stealing, dropped third strike, and no limit on runs per inning.

  • Schedule: Teams practice once a week and play one or two games a week. The season is 12 games and may include intra-league play.
  • Draft and Roster: Team rosters are created annually through a draft. All 12 year-olds are guaranteed placement in this division, but teams may not have more than eight 12-year-olds on a roster. Since placement on teams is through a draft, we do not honor requests to place any child on the same team as a sibling, friend, or coach.
  • Coaches: Team Managers register through the website and their player is automatically assigned to the team. Assistant coaches are added to the staff of the team their player is drafted onto.
  • Lineups: Set by the Team Manager. Each player must play at least 2 innings in the field per game.

⚾ Minors AAA Division

A competitive, all player-pitched division for players who have played at least one year in the Minors AA league.

  • Eligible Age: Boys or girls league age 8-11. Players age 7 are not eligible for this division.
