As a Team Manager or Coach, you are responsible for your team’s development, safety, and enjoyment of Lawrence Little League Baseball. Having committed team managers and coaches are key to the smooth operation of the Little League season. All Team Managers and Coaches are appointed by the President of Lawrence Little League, and all appointments are subject to final approval by the local league’s board of directors.
We expect that our managers and coaches will help all players improve their baseball skills. But more importantly, each manager and coach must be a positive example of integrity and good sportsmanship to each member of their team, no matter the outcome of a game. Other responsibilities include:
Maintaining effective communication with players and parents
Promote competitiveness and fair play
Creating a healthy and positive environment for players
Encourage participation for all players
Modeling sportsmanship among players, coaches, and umpires
Remember, these are kids playing ball with their friends. Little League creates memories that will last a lifetime. Baseball is fun. Don’t let poor behavior, attitudes, or sportsmanship ruin it for the kids.
Before You Take The Field
Ensure you are registered with the League website to receive all communications about mandatory trainings and league meetings (click link in the header of this website).
Make sure you have completed the volunteer process and emailed all necessary paperwork to the Lawrence Little League Safety officer. Note that most forms must be completed annually.
Managers and Coaches Team Responsibilities
All managers must attend the draft and select their team, select two coaches, set the team practice schedule, and conduct practices. Managers must also make sure that the team adheres to Lawrence Little League Local Rules. They also take the lead role in communication with parents and with Lawrence Little League.
Coaches work collaboratively with the Manager to help with practices, in-game, and to enforce league and team rules with players and parents.
Managers and coaches must attend all mandatory training and meetings.
Safety Responsibilities
Managers must collect a completed medical release form from each player. They should keep this form with them so that it is available in case of an emergency at a practice or game. The form can be downloaded from the sidebar.
Pitch Counts
Managers and coaches must ensure that their team complies with Little League International Pitch count rules. The eligibility of a player to pitch in a Lawrence Little League game is governed by a tiered pitch count that is tied to the number of pitches thrown in a game. The pitch count determines how many days of rest are required before said player may pitch again in a Little League game.
